An ethical and science based approach to help high prey drive dogs stay calm even in the presence of wildlife
How does it work?
Predatory behaviour is highly motivating for your dog. The act of chasing prey triggers the release of chemicals in the brain that make your dog feel a state of high, and so punishment is not effective. Predation Substitute Training looks at understanding what predation really is and how it affects your dog so that we can channel the safe parts of the predatory sequence to increase connection with you, whilst utilising practical techniques to prevent your dog engaging with the unsafe parts of the predatory sequence. We will also look at techniques to help create calmness in the presence of wildlife, and build a reliable recall in these situations.
Predation Substitute Training was developed by Simone Mueller in Germany where e-collars are banned, yet most people walk their dogs in natural environments with a high density of natural wildlife.
Training will eventually involve working around wildlife, however the safety of wildlife is paramount and safety measures will be in place.
The different options for Predation Substitute Training are:
Four 1-2-1 sessions at the training field covering everything Predation Substitute Training and all of the practical techniques, access to the BDT Predation WhatsApp for support, and videos to enhance learning. This option is £300.
Four 1-2-1 sessions and two training walks with all of the above perks for £395
Throughout the year I sometimes run classes and workshops in Predation Substitute Training. To find out when I am next running these classes, please get in touch via one of the methods on the contact page.
